At Chelsea we feel it is important to give back to the community and we do this in a number of ways by supporting local schools
and groups around the Chelsea refinery, and the wider New Zealand community.
Charities and Donations
If you were to take the value of the donations each year and translate this into how many Muffins this would represent, in 2012, Chelsea donated the equivalent of 1,371,773 Chocolate Chip Muffins!
Here are some of the causes we are proud to support with donations of product or time. For instance the birds on Tiritiri Matangi require supplementry feeding throughout the year with a sugar syrup solution. We have been supplying the sugar for this supplementry feeding for over 10 years.
Our staff also engage in a number of mentoring programmes. Project K inspires young people to reach their full potential through building self-confidence, teaching essential life skills such as goal setting and team work, promoting good health and a positive attitude. Our mentors assist Project K students in setting and achieving their goals. We also have a number of staff involved as ambassadors for the Futureintech programme in schools encouraging children in technology, engineering and science careers.
Charities and Donations
Chelsea has withstood the test of time. It was operating when Mt Tarawera erupted, survived the great depression of the 1930’s and two world wars. The Chelsea Refinery still continues to operate in its original location on the waterfront in Birkenhead, however in a very different world to when it started business back in 1884!
